I personally love New Year’s resolutions. I love thinking about my last year and appreciating the great things that happened. Maybe even give myself credit for making it happen which you CAN do, you should do! But then also reflecting on the not so good points and either figuring out how to make it better for the next year or thinking how I can make it happen this year. A lot of times I found most goals came down to me. Things happened because I made them happen or they didn’t because I let it slide or slacked off.
I never find it hard to make a list of goals for the year. It’s harder to keep them though. Last year I checked some big ones off my list but left out some smaller personal goals.
Here are 2017 goals. |The list is long but I’d like to incorporate some into my every day life. It’ll leave more room on my list for next year. Like most things though, you have to start somewhere.
#1 Travel
This one will always be on my list. 2016 was finally the start to my travelling. Besides a trip to Arizona once or twice a year I finally sat down, did some planning and a lot of dreaming and flew across the world. This year I plan to make a trip to South Australia. I would also like to head over to Bali or Thailand for a week or two. I’m very excited to explore more of New Zealand taking off on weekend trips around the country!
#2 Budget
Every year I say I’ll save more, I won’t spend so much on things I don’t need. Well this year I’m committed. I have a monthly budget sheet made up and am motivated to save from the fact that there’s so much of the world I want to see and let’s be honest, it costs $$.
#3 Fitness
I’ve always been very active. Up until last year I rode horses competitively and trained 6 to 7 times a week. I ran half marathons and other runs and have always been a fan of Jillian Michaels home workouts. This year I’m starting a new #bbg program from Kayla Itsines mixed in with some Asana Rebel Yoga. I slacked off in 2016 and am motivated to tone up and shape up!
#4 Health
I have the biggest sweet tooth in the world!! I struggle making good food choices at home and going out. I’ve done a ton of research of healthy recipes and what to stay away from. I’ve just always picked the easy way out and say oh I’ll work that off later. Well if I’m committed to getting fit then I need to be committed to eat well too. It’s just one of those goals to work hard at and stay dedicated.
#5 Read more
I plan to read one book each month or at the most every 2 months. I’ve always enjoyed reading just never make time for it. I’ve started off this month reading Dorothy Koomson’s The Flavours of love. Three chapters in and it’s an exciting read!
#6 Learn to fly fish
I’ve been fishing since I was young and for some reason have always wanted to learn to fly fish. Luckily I recently met someone who I can now call a friend here whose dad fly fishes. I can say I’ll jump on that opportunity!
#7 Blogging!
I’m so excited to have started this blog and am very motivated to grow it. I’ve always loved to write and I’m excited to share my thoughts and ideas with you!
#8 Make time or find time
This sounds pretty vague but it’s just as simple as making time for all the things I’m setting goals for. It’s easy to say oh I’ll do it later or ya I’ll get to it one day. But I’m on the other side of the world. I want to make time to keep connections with friends and family. Make time to see things in NZ or go to weekend events instead of getting comfortable and staying home. Make time to work out, read and write and make time to take every opportunity I can!
I’d love to hear what your resolutions are! Check out my post about how to make them happen!
