The weather can be a challenge in Canterbury, New Zealand sometimes.   And by sometimes I mean a lot.  I’ve come to realize it’s windy more than it is calm, so on those 10 km/hr wind days, I do anything I can to get out and chase me some reflections!

I’ve been to the Ashburton Lakes area numerous times.  These photos are from multiple trips.

There’s something so magical about the snow capped mountains, the stillness of the air and the raw beauty of nature.

  1. Wow, those are some seriously stunning pictures! I spent some quality time in New Zealand last November but I didn’t make it to the Ashburn Lakes. Now I can’t wait to go back. I think I’ll take a serious camera with me next time. Which one were you using?

    1. Thank you! Its New Zealand just showing off haha! Yes you must come back, always something new to see! I shoot with nikon. This one was from my Nikon D3100 with the kit lens, f/3.5-5.6 18-55mm. SUPER camera to learn on!

  2. Beautiful. Peaceful. Calm. Well shot! My husband is from New Zealand and when we go it makes me feel so good to be there. I just wish it wasn’t so far away, I’d move in a heartbeat! (I need to get tired of living in Europe first, though!). Keep up the good work!

  3. That’s the kind of view that makes your soul happy, isn’t it? I can imagine the air would make your lungs feel they were having a great vacation too. Choosing Clearwater for the lake’s name was certainly never going to let anyone think they’d been misled.

  4. I love your pictures, so amazing, especially the first one! We tend to prefer the quiet spots so Lake Heron would definitely be the place to go to. Added it to our bucket list!

  5. You had the perfect day for taking these pictures. They are stunning and you captured the stillness on the lakes perfectly. I could see myself in those pictures just enjoying the quietness and stillness.
