Moraine and Louise.. no I’m not talking about some kind of sequel and replacing Thelma but given the amazingness of these lakes (yes I made up a word), if they were people they’d be just as badass as the two wild ladies from the 90s. And just like those adventure seekers stuck together, in my mind so does these two lakes. They’re practically lake neighbours anyways. If you’re in Banff you can’t see one lake and not the other. This is why. Exhibit A Lake Louise Quite possibly one of the worlds’ most instagammed lakes. I wonder why right?... ha! I pr[...]
Ok so I'm not out climbing Everest or anything but for this girl who grew up on flatter than flat prairie land I can honestly say sometimes it almost feels like it! Ahh feel the burn! I know you're laughing at me. I'm laughing at me too. One day I'll get used to the 'steep' grades or what I consider to be steep. I'm slowly working my way up... literally. I’ve spent quite a bit of time hiking since I’ve been here in the South Island. One hike/walk a weekend. I hate the gym and I love chocolate. I don’t like weights but I like amazing views so my alter[...]
When you think of white sand beaches, warm water and sunshine the first thought is probably Mexico or somewhere tropical. I know mine is. Do I live in the tropics with such things? Of course not, I live in Manitoba… That’s what I thought anyways… Turns out, there’s a special place here called Grand Beach that has the most beautiful beach! Named one of the nicest in North America, it’s Manitoba’s own little tropical paradise (minus the palm trees). There’s a few cute shops on the boardwalk and a snack shack as well as ice cream whe[...]
They’re dreamy. They’re funny and even if you have no idea what is being said, they’re sexy. Yup, that’s right. I am talking about Kiwi accents. Lets be honest, I'm talking about the way the MEN sound. Mmm. . . he he I think I can speak in confidence that I am not alone in my oh la la la keep talking paleasseee thoughts. They just sound so damn good even when I have no idea what they’re saying! I don’t know, maybe it’s a Canadian thing! The other thing I love about the way Kiwis talk is what they say! I got a little taste for[...]
10 things kiwis rock at! I have just come home from NZ for another summer break in Canada. I’ve been home only a few days and completely and totally miss the country! Aetoroa, you have my heart. Leaving your home and exploring a new one really lets you see things differently, appreciate your own country and also make you think, wow they’re actually doing it right! Yes NZ roads are the worst, along with their internet connection but I could still go on and on about how amazing and totally awesome New Zealand is. Why you might ask, well here’s a fe[...]
22 days… I just got to New Zealand on December 12th and in 22 days I’m heading back to Canada. I spent 4 months crying because I miss home and now I’m spending a month crying because I have to go back. What the hell right. My traveling isn’t the backpacking hop to a new country every 6 weeks type of travel. I feel like it’s a different kind of a travel. A living travel. I’ve come to New Zealand to live like I did in Canada but New Zealand style. I have a job here, I have rent payments, a car and use weekends and any time I can get off to explore this[...]
13 great shots taken in New Zealand with only an iPhone!
I’ve officially been in NZ for 3 months! It’s been a whirlwind of emotions mixed with amazing views and great adventures! I’m constantly day dreaming of what I want to see next, where I want to go and try to completely deter the thoughts of.. how am I going to pay for all this! But in true Lauren fashion, ‘where there is a will, there’s a way’. Time is going by very fast here but in the past three months I have had learned a lot! Let me share with you a few things I’ve learned along the way so far… 13 things I’ve learned in 3 months about New Ze[...]
I personally love New Year’s resolutions. I love thinking about my last year and appreciating the great things that happened. Maybe even give myself credit for making it happen which you CAN do, you should do! But then also reflecting on the not so good points and either figuring out how to make it better for the next year or thinking how I can make it happen this year. A lot of times I found most goals came down to me. Things happened because I made them happen or they didn’t because I let it slide or slacked off. I never find it hard to make a list of goals[...]
