You had me at high country cabin.
I’m not sure if it’s because I’m Canadian, from the country or spent a lot of my childhood on the lake but the thought of cozying up in a cabin just spells bliss to me! You too?
I would say North America does the wood cabin thing very well. I’ll neer forget my stay at Falcon Trails Resort. Many are actually situated by a lake where you have a separate house for your boat and you can drive it right onto the water. Something I haven’t seen here in New Zealand. Not yet anyways. Many people have what they call a bach instead. Basically a modest holiday home for your average joe.
I have yet to find that American on the waterfront type cabin but I have found a cabin just as good. Great actually. And instead of situated lakefront, it’s situated mountain front. Yes mountain front…. You look out the window, set out the door and there’s a mountain range right there!
Sounds pretty epic doesn’t it!
What is this perfect little cabin I have found you may ask. One of the best accommodations in Twizel– High Country Cabin!
The second I walked through the door I had a smiled on my face and I immediately felt relaxed. It felt like home. The decor was trendy yet woodsy and had everything a person could need. Reminded me a little bit of tiny home living. The cabin was very photogenic and perfect for the ‘gram‘.
The location couldn’t be more perfect. I mentioned mountain front before. The High Country Cabin is set just below the Ben Ohau range. I can tell you the morning glow off the snow capped range is just magical. Needless to say, I highly suggest booking in during the wintertime. The wintery landscapes are more than beautiful and the cabin has a log burner to keep you warm and cozy. Of course along with wooly blankets.
Along with the beautiful scenery, the cabin is set under the dark sky reserve, meaning little to no light pollution making for some of the world’s best star gazing. If you’re lucky, you might be able to catch the Southern lights.
If you want to book, head over to this Air Bnb LINK. And just as a side note I do earn a commission on any stays booked at no extra cost to you 🙂 Thank you for the support and yay on your booking 😛
Twizel is one of my new favourite spots. It never used to be if I’m being honest. Not really sure why. I guess I thought it was just a sleepy town and better things were in places like Tekapo or Wanaka. Low and behold though I find these days, I quite like that local, ‘sleepy’ town vibe. It seems tourists stop in Tekapo while Twizel is filled with kiwis who have lived there for years or have a bach in the area. It really is a friendly local town and a great place to base if you’re exploring the area or taking a road trip. There is heaps to do, you’ll never be bored, just keep an eye on the weather as the Mackenzie Basin’s climate can easily go from high to low within hours!
How much do you love cozy cabins?
Save this!
